Age...

Crabby Old Man

What do you see nurses? . . . .. . What do you see?
What are you thinking . . . . . When you're looking at me?
A crabby old man . . . . . Not very wise,
Uncertain of habit . . . . . With faraway eyes?

Who dribbles his food . . . . . And makes no reply.
When you say in a loud voice . . . . . 'I do wish you'd try!'
Who seems not to notice . . . . . The things that you do.
And forever is losing . . . . . A sock or shoe?

Who, resisting or not . . . . .. Lets you do as you will,
With bathing and feeding . . . . . The long day to fill?
Is that what you're thinking? . . . . . Is that what you see?
Then open your eyes, nurse . . . . . You're not looking at me.

I'll tell you who I am. . . . . . As I sit here so still,
As I do at your bidding, . . . . . As I eat at your will.
I'm a small child of Ten . .. . . . With a father and mother,
Brothers and sisters . . . . . Who love one another.

A young boy of Sixteen . . . . With wings on his feet..
Dreaming that soon now . . . . . A lover he'll meet.
A groom soon at Twenty . . . . . My heart gives a leap.
Remembering, the vows . . . . .. That I promised to keep.

At Twenty-Five, now . . . . . I have young of my own.
Who need me to guide . . . . . And a secure happy home.
A man of Thirty . . . . . My young now grown fast,
Bound to each other . . . . . With ties that should last.

At Forty, my young sons . . . . . Have grown and are gone,
But my woman's beside me . . . . . To see I don't mourn.
At Fifty, once more, babies play 'round my knee,
Again, we know children . . . .. . My loved one and me.

Dark days are upon me . . . . . My wife is now dead.
I look at the future . . . . . Shudder with dread.
For my young are all rearing . . . . . Young of their own.
And I think of the years . . . . . And the love that I've known.

I'm now an old man . . . . . And nature is cruel.
Tis jest to make old age . . . .. . Look like a fool.
The body, it crumbles . . . . . Grace and vigor, depart.
There is now a stone . .. . . Where I once had a heart.

But inside this old carcass . . . . . A young guy still dwells,
And now and again . . . . . My battered heart swells.
I remember the joys . . . . . I remember the pain.
And I'm loving and living . . . .. . Life over again.

I think of the years, all too few . . . . . Gone too fast.
And accept the stark fact . . . . That nothing can last.
So open your eyes, people . . . . . Open and see.
Not a crabby old man . . . Look closer . . . See ME!!

* This was posted by a friend of mine on Facebook but it moved me so deeply that I wanted to share it again on my blog. This was written by an old man in a nursing home. When he died the nurses found this poem in his draw  and they were all moved to tears...So was I!!!

Elements

Elements.

The sun shines hot upon our heads
Record heat, that cannot be fled
Days and days of a sweaty bod
Messing with nature, annoys God
A gentle breeze starts to flow
Stronger and stronger it does blow
Dark, dark clouds begin to form
It’s going to be...  A MIGHTY STORM!
A flash of light - a crashing sound
The elements raging all around
A pitter-patter against the pane
Announces the start of heavy rain
And down it falls in sheets of white
The day outside becomes night
Mother Nature at her best
Her P.M.T our current guest
Rain falls long, rain falls hard
The grass lies flattened in the Yard
But wait...the quiet has returned
Hurray....
The mighty storm has been adjourned!

Time.

Watch the water run,
Watch it trickle away,
Just like time....
Doesn't linger,
Doesn't stay....

New Year – 2013.

2013 is on it’s way,
365 possibilities to live and play.
I wish you all the best next year,
Lose the negative and the fear.
Although it’s easier said than done,
We are still capable of having fun.
Health, happiness and lots of love,
Strength and blessings from above.
Great accomplishments far and wide,
Family and dear ones by your side.
Thank you for all the support this year,
I needed it badly and it was near.
Happy New Year...I love you all
Enjoy the journey....Have a ball!

Christmas/Natal 2012.

Festividades 2012.

Olha o Natal ai de novo
Como passa, né, meu povo?!
Carnaval, Páscoa e Finados
Dias e dias atarefados
Esse ano correu demais
Acontecimentos monumentais
Alegrias e tristezas intercaladas
Gargalhadas e choros desenfreadas
Estamos vivos pra continuar
Nossa estória a completar
É época de refletir
Agradecer a Deus e pedir
Que 2013 venha em paz
Com muito carinho em cartaz
Compaixão, amor e saúde
Bom caráter e atitude
Celebremos, sim, esses momentos
Pois não sabemos o que trazem os ventos?
Encaremos a vida com fervor
Felicidades, com todo meu amor.

The Flying Christmas Pud.

Lulu had a brainwave -
She'd make a Christmas pud,
A Christmas pud so tasty,
The best pud that she could.

But when she tried to cut it,
It took off with a zoom,
And circled round the kitchen
And flew out of the room.

Christmas pud! Christmas pud!
Stop that Christmas pud!
Lulu wants to eat it,
It looks so blooming good.
Oh, Christmas pud! Christmas pud!
Flying on the breeze,
Lulu wants her pudding back,
Stop that pudding, please!

Lulu chased her pudding
Outside into the street,
A policeman tried to catch it,
It knocked him off his feet.

It circled round the town hall
And headed out of town,
Across the fields and forest
And up the hills and down.

The last time it was spotted
It was flying out to sea,
A ship's captain reported it
As it flew with magesty.

Christmas pud! Christmas pud!
Stop that christmas pud!
Lulu wants to eat it,
It looks so blooming good,
Oh, Christmas pud! Christmas pud!
Flying on the breeze,
Lulu wants her pudding back,
Stop that pudding, please!

The Sun.

The sun is out again, HURRAY!
The sun is out, at least for today
The sun is out, come on, let's play
The sun is out, I'm off, "Good day"!
